SAATEN-UNION UK works with P.H Petersen, one of our partners in Germany to produce varieties of Spring Beans.
Why our spring beans?
We work with our Saaten Union member PH Petersen (PHP) for our spring bean portfolio. PHP have been very successful in Europe with their programme over the past few years supporting several varieties across the bean growing area of Europe.
We introduced 3 PHP varieties to the UK back in 2021. We have continued to work with PHP in trials and testing to evaluate their early development material to the suitability of the UK. We are pleased to have the new variety CALLAS now on the PGRO Descriptive List.
CALLAS is the highest yielding LVC variety (low vicine and covicine) on the descriptive list. This is an important step in the development of our varieties as LVC lines are common in much of Europe and will be so in the UK very soon. LVC varieties have reduced anti-nutritional compounds within them which means they are more suitable to both human and animal feed production and can be included at higher rates if needed.
