Why our Winter Spelt Wheat?
SAATEN-UNION UK import spelt wheat via our Saaten Union partner in Germany, Südwestdeutsche Saatzucht (SWS) GmbH & Co. KG.
SWS breed a range of specialist grains including spelt wheat.
In the UK we work with our partners Elsoms Seeds on the most popular variety ‘Zollernspelz’.
Zollernspelz Spelt wheat is the most popular species of the “ancient cereals” in Germany. It is cultivated in all regions, with a focus on Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The spelt wheat spikelets are harvested and then dehulled before milling.
Spelt bread and spelt baked goods are premium products enhanced by the nutty flavour of the spelt wheat flour.
